Living in the Eleventh Hour: Preparing for the Glorious Return of the Savior by Robert L. Millet
Watch and Be Ready: Preparing for the Second Coming of the Lord ed. by Robert L. Millet
D&C 133:1-3 The Lord will come suddenly
For the hour is nigh—D&C 29:9,10; 45:33 ; 133: 17 17 For behold, the Lord God hath sent forth the angel crying through the midst of heaven, saying: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight, for the hour of his coming is nigh—
Time is soon at hand D&C 34:7 I come quickly D&C 34:12
When is the Lord coming? He is coming tomorrow!
D&C 64: 23-25
23 Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.
24 For after today cometh the burning—this is speaking after the manner of the Lord—for verily I say, tomorrow all the proud and they that do wickedly shall be as stubble; and I will burn them up, for I am the Lord of Hosts; and I will not spare any that remain in Babylon.
25 Wherefore, if ye believe me, ye will labor while it is called today.
133:42-52 So great shall be the glory of his presence (Sun darkened, moon turned to blood, stars refuse to shine—D&C 34:9 45:42; signs in the heavens 45:40 ; stars shall become angry and cast themselves down 86:87)
I will reveal myself with power and great glory D&C 29:11; 34:7-8; 45:16, 44; All flesh shall see me 101:22; When the Savior comes he will reveal all things 101:32-34
133:4-5 Sanctify Yourselves today
And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you. (Joshua 3:5)
Who are the righteous? The righteous are those who are repenting 133:62, the righteous are not entangled in sin D&C 88:86
The Twelve apostles of the Lord shall come and will be clothed in robes of righteousness D&C 29:12; Righteous shall be clothed with crowns, shall be clothed even as the Savior is D&C 29:13—that clothing will make them one with the Savior
Jesus’s disciples will stand in holy places and will not be moved 45:32; 101:22
He that feareth me will be looking forth for the great day of the Lord to come & for the signs of the coming of the Son of Man 45:39
Resurrected saints will come forth 29:13 45:46; 88:97-98
Righteous will be caught up to see the Lord 88:96
31 Yea, I would that ye would come forth and harden not your hearts any longer; for behold, now is the time and the day of your salvation; and therefore, if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, immediately shall the great plan of redemption be brought about unto you.
32 For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.
33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed.
34 Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.
“The greatest preparation we can make today as we anticipate tomorrow is to attend to the small and simple things that come before us each minute and hour of every day. Abraham was able to surrender his own will to Jehovah and to do the unthinkable—offer his son Isaac in sacrifice—because of the hundreds of private battles of the soul he had waged and won. In our own lives there are moments that matter, significant times in which choices are made between self-denial and self-absorption, struggles of the soul that call for mere meekness rather than railing accusation, conflagrations that require schooling the feelings rather than exploding in anger and resentment. Public success is always preceded by private victories won within human hearts.
“The extent to which I am prepared to meet the Lord Jesus when he comes again might very well be reflected, for example, in the extent to which I am learning each dy to tame the tongue; to channel my thoughts in righteous paths; to choose not to be offended but rather to assume the best; to ask myself consistently what I can do to serve and lighten the burdens of others; to put on hold my immediate gratification in order to achieve a higher aim than satisfied selfhood; to be willing to be inconvenienced; and to be found at my duty station at all times.”
JS Matt 1:40-48—I come as a thief in the night—be ready
133: 11—“Watch therefor , for ye know neither the day nor the hour.”
Go ye out from Babylon D&C 133:4-5 Holy Webster’s 1828 dictionary “We call a man holy, when his heart is conformed in some degree to the image of God, ad his life is regulated by the divine precepts.” A holy person is therefore one who lives a life that is patterned after the Savior’s in which divine precepts both motivate and monitor one’s conduct. We live in a day that militates agains holiness, when time-honored values are ridiculed, and when those who stand up for morality are marginalized in society. It is in fact, the day of Satan’s power, in which evil is called good and good is called evil, in which darkness is labeled light and light is labeled darkness (Isahiah 5:20)
Stand in Holy Places—D&C 45:32 ; 2 Peter 3:10-18
NIV 2 Peter 3:11-12 “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming”
In Genesis 3:6-9 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (God takes our best and then gives us more—“the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them”.—sacrifice)
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
“Adam where art thou?” Didn’t God know??
Dennis Rasmussen wrote in the book “The Lord’s Question”, “man’s fundamental need is not to ask a question, but to respond to one. Only by responding do I learn to be responsible; only by responding do I learn to care about something beyond myself…When Adam left Eden, the Lord clothed his body with a garment and his soul with a question. Adam where art thou? Does God not know? On the contrary, only he knows. In my weakness I lose my bearings. Like a child wandering in a forest I follow the whims of the moment and forget the way. I am too caught up by my surroundings to follow the path. Not until a Father’s voice calls do I wonder where I am. How shall I answer? I am here? But where is Here? So helpless am I that I cannot say. But deep with I hear his voice and tremble, for finally there are just two places, with him or without him, and just two ways, toward him or not toward him.”
Parable of the Fig Tree: 45:36-38 JS Matt 1:38, 35:15-16
36 And when the light shall begin to break forth, it shall be with them like unto a parable which I will show you—
37 Ye look and behold the fig trees, and ye see them with your eyes, and ye say when they begin to shoot forth, and their leaves are yet tender, that summer is now nigh at hand;
38 Even so it shall be in that day when they shall see all these things, then shall they know that the hour is nigh.

D&C 133:7-8 ; 37, 57-60 (that men might be partakers of the glories which were to be revealed) Preach the gospel
Missionary work—D&C 34:5-6, 10 called to preach repentance and lift up voice as a trump and cry repentance to prepare the way for the Lord,
When the times of the Gentiles shall come in the fulness of the gospel will be restored 45:28 When light of gospel begins to break forth the hour is nigh 45:36,38
Bruce R. McConkie in April 1980 General Conference:
Looking ahead, we see the gospel preached in all nations and to every people with success attending.
We see the Lord break down the barriers so that the world of Islam and the world of Communism can hear the message of the restoration; and we glory in the fact that Ishmael—as well as Isaac—and Esau—as well as Jacob—shall have an inheritance in the eternal kingdom.
We see congregations of the covenant people worshipping the Lord in Moscow and Peking and Saigon. We see Saints of the Most High raising their voices in Egypt and India and Africa.
We see stakes of Zion in all parts of the earth; and Israel, the chosen people, gathering into these cities of holiness, as it were, to await the coming of their King.
We see temples in great numbers dotting the earth, so that those of every nation and kindred and tongue and people can receive the fulness of the ordinances of the house of the Lord and can qualify to live and reign as kings and priests on earth a thousand years.

Robert Millet quote
D&C 133:10,19 The bridegroom Why does the Lord use the image of the Bridegroom here? What does that image teach us?
Parable of Ten Virgins fulfilled 45:57-59
57 For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived (oil is obtained drop by drop, line upon line and precept upon precept)—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day. (Wherefore, be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom—For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that I come quickly. (D&C 33:17-18))
58 And the earth shall be given unto them for an inheritance; and they shall multiply and wax strong, and their children shall grow up without sin unto salvation.
59 For the Lord shall be in their midst, and his glory shall be upon them, and he will be their king and their lawgiver.
If we are waiting for the bridegroom then we are the bride D&C 109:74-76
73 That thy church may come forth out of the wilderness of darkness, and shine forth fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners;
74 And be adorned as a bride for that day when thou shalt unveil the heavens, and cause the mountains to flow down at thy presence, and the valleys to be exalted, the rough places made smooth; that thy glory may fill the earth;
75 That when the trump shall sound for the dead, we shall be caught up in the cloud to meet thee, that we may ever be with the Lord;
76 That our garments may be pure, that we may be clothed upon with robes of righteousness, with palms in our hands, and crowns of glory upon our heads, and reap eternal joy for all our sufferings.
As we extend ourselves in service, rid ourselves of the profane, the unnecessary, the spiritually distracting, we begin to gain spiritual power, power to lighten the heavy burdens of our brothers and sisters, power to enjoy and use the gifts of the spirit, power to bless the lives of our friends and loved ones, power to lift conversations from the mundane to the meaningful, power to speak the word of the lord and cause it to go down into the hearts of those who listen, power to provide for our families and those over whom we may have charge a vision of eternal life and the sweet assurance that we can make it. D&C 82:14 For Zion must increase in beauty, and in holiness; her borders must be enlarged; her stakes must be strengthened; yea, verily I say unto you, Zion must arise and put on her beautiful garments.
D&C 133: 14-15 Babylon Do not look back (JS Matt 1:12-15) Lots wife Gen 19:26 But Lot’s wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt
The wicked will not stand or the destruction of the wicked is the end of the world—D&C 29:11,
Because of the wickedness of the world I will take vengeance upon the wicked because they will not repent 19:17 The blood of the Savior will not cleanse them if they will not hear him; He that watches not for me will be cut off 45:44
Everything that is corruptible will be destroyed by fire D&C 101:24
And the great and abominable church, which is the whore of all the earth, shall be cast down by devouring fire, vs 21; D&C88:94
Great Destruction of the wicked D&C 34:9
and they that have laughed shall see their folly.
50 And calamity shall cover the mocker, and the scorner shall be consumed; and they that have watched for iniquity shall be hewn down and cast into the fire.
Weeping & wailing among the hosts of men D&C 29:15,
Wars and rumors of wars 45:26; blood fire and vapors of smoke 45:41
Men’s hearts shall fail them 45:26
Men receive not the gospel because they turn hearts away from Jesus Christ and prefer the precepts of men 45:29 Men will harden their hearts against Jesus and this will cause them to take up the sword one against another and to kill one another 45:33
In Joseph Smith’s translation of Matthew “And again, because iniquity shall abound , the love of men shall wax cold; but he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be slain.” JS Matthew 1:30
Love of many will wax cold & iniquity shall abound—45:27 Men will harden their hearts against Jesus and this will cause them to take up the sword one against another and to kill one another 45:33; but when the Savior appears enmity will cease 101:26
“As wickedness widens, malevolence multiplies. As sin spreads insensitivity intensifies. As immorality expands, the collective conscience shrinks and the sense of conch is deadened. The increase in our society of sarcasm, rudeness, crudeness, and hostility, child and spouse abuse, neglect of the innocent and the aged, and the continued death of the unborn through abortion, all these bespeak a gradual and too often unnoticed dehumanization, a definite desensitization. It is hauntingly significant that in the days of Noah ‘the earth was corrupt before God, and it was filled with violence…And God said unto Noah: the end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is filled with violence and behold I will destroy all flesh from off the earth’
We are not, however, left without hope, nor need we surrender to the sadness of the sordid picture of what will be. We remember the Master’s promise that ‘he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be saved.’ (JS Matt 1:30) To the extent that the people of God keep themselves free from the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah, distance themselves from the unholy and unclean, and sanctify themselves—separate themselves—from anything that defiles, degrades, and thus destroys the soul, they will not only save themselves but also preserve and protect their families an those they are charged to serve. To the extent that those who have received the fulness of the gospel honor their cobenenats, particularly those promises made in holy places, they will grow in spiritual power and stand as a stark contrast to the vain and pathetic heroes of the world.” ROBERT MILLET pg 13-14
False Christs: JS Matthew 1:21-22: 21 Behold, these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews; and again, after the tribulation of those days which shall come upon Jerusalem, if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there, believe him not;
22 For in those days there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.
Elder Bruce R. McConkie :
“A false Christ is not a person. It is a false system of worship, a false church, a false cult that says: ‘Lo, her is salvation; here is the doctrine of Christ. Come and believe thus and so, and ye shall be saved.’ It is any concept or philosophy that says that redemption, salvation, sanctification, justification, and all of the promised rewards can be gained in any way except that set forth by the apostles and prophets”
—that is, a social or behavioral system that holds out hope for fulfillment and spiritual wholeness in ways antithetical to the Lord’s prescribed patterns for behavior and lifestyle.
1 Cor 3:18-19 “Do not deceive yourself, if any one of you thinks he is wise by that standards of their age, he should become a “fool” (in other words turn away from human wisdom, from being “wise by the standards of this age” ) so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.” Turn to 1 Cor 1:18-24
Whoso treasureth up the word shall not be deceived JS Matt 1:37
To treasure is to retain carefully, to store up, to put away for a later time when it might be needed.
Elder Richard G. Scott October 2011 conference:
“Because scriptures are generated from inspired communication through the Holy Ghost, they are pure truth. We need not be concerned about the validity of concepts contained in the standard works since the Holy Ghost has been the instrument which has motivated and inspired those individuals who have recorded the scriptures.
Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
The scriptures provide the strength of authority to our declarations when they are cited correctly. They can become stalwart friends that are not limited by geography or calendar. They are always available when needed. Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost. Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the world.
Great power can come from memorizing scriptures. To memorize a scripture is to forge a new friendship. It is like discovering a new individual who can help in time of need, give inspiration and comfort, and be a source of motivation for needed change.
Pondering a scripture…gives great direction to life. The scriptures can form a foundation of support. They can provide an incredibly large resource of willing friends who can help us. A memorized scripture becomes an enduring friend that is not weakened with the passage of time.
Pondering a passage of scripture can be a key to unlock revelation and the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Scriptures can calm an agitated soul, giving peace, hope, and a restoration of confidence in one’s ability to overcome the challenges of life. They have potent power to heal emotional challenges when there is faith in the Savior. They can accelerate physical healing.
Scriptures can communicate different meanings at different times in our life, according to our needs. A scripture that we may have read many times can take on nuances of meaning that are refreshing and insightful when we face a new challenge in life.
